Silkroad on Ubuntu / Virtualbox / VMWare

Hello there guys..

So, basically, I'm an Ubuntu guy. I just want to play Silkroad while I'm working on other stuff. The first thing I tried was Virtualbox. I have a Windows XP, SP2, so I installed that, installed Virtualbox devices, installed 3D acceleration, installed Silkroad, then the updates, and then it starts, but just as the cursor appears, a black screen appears then Silkroad just closes...

Another trial was to use Wine. The problem is that I can't download patches as I'm using Ubuntu.

The third trial was to use VMWare. VMWare 8 didn't work, the drivers compiler failed on the network and the filesystem blocker. VMWare 9 installation caused me kernel panic, twice...

I'm lost, and I won't go with dual-booting because all the stuff I work on are on Ubuntu. Can someone help?

Wine should work perfectly for silkroad, I have used it in the past. You just need to enable wine for the launcher to and it should upload perfectly when configured correctly. Also, make sure you installed the correct display drivers on your ubuntu installation, there is a lot of difference in performance.

Virtualbox is not really the best for 3d stuff, VMWare should work, just use NAT and it should work automatically.

VMWare doesn't even install... Read the post again.

I'll try Wine. Virtualbox doesn't seem to be working, too. Let's see how it will go.

KVM or XEN? What are those?

And yes. VMWare Workstation 7 - 8 - 9, etc.

paxemuman, I wanna run the original thing :|

Tried again on VMWare. Crashes as soon as it starts with a grey and white stripped and shattered image..

Will try Wine now.

Wine should work perfectly, I have done it in the past with kSRO (so iSRO/non-xtrap vSRO should work too)
