9dragons has been plagued by dishonesty and veiled promises for many years beyond this latest one. Anyone who takes any stock in to what anyone says about a 9dragons private server on this forum isn't being very realistic. Yes, there are a lot of people working on 9dragons. However, most of those people are the same people that have been doing so for years already. I've lost count to how many times I've seen the same peoples names in the 9dragons forum on this website.
I only casually came here to see if there was an up and running private server I could hop into for a few hours for some nostalgia. I can only imagine the frustration of the people who've been waiting here since January.
Honesty is the best policy. If you aren't able to say a deadline, then don't say a deadline. If it's not coming "soon" then don't say it's coming soon. There was someone a few days ago that berated another user because that user called the New Dawn Team on their word. I want to specifically address that person.

Someone saying "we might release" end of august, or "if everything goes right we release on date X" is not even a promise, you need to get out of this promise and fixed ideas, thats not how the world works, but to understand how the world works you need to get out more and do stuff yourself.
If this was an official game with a payed system and a fixed release date then you could say the developers made a promise and its also legally sueable and you can ask your money back on most platforms if you preorder.

You are right. There's nothing in any of these announcements that's legally binding. You can use that to defend them. It's correct to do so. However it's not enough to protect you. You and, I can only assume, many others, seem to think that a promise or gentleman agreement means nothing. You're technically right. There's nothing legally binding in it.
You over look one simple fact though.
When you lie, people lose trust in you.
You guys have been making checks with your mouths for years now and nearly all of them have bounced. How many people do you think will willingly become your sheep to fleece if you continue to not provide adequate service?
9dragons has been bought and sold an incredible amount of times over the years. A company will buy the game, fleece as much money from those willing to be taken in by their lies, deceit, and false promises, then they sell the game instantly to break even.
You private server devs are no better. Far from it, you are worse. You don't buy the game, you steal it. You make false promises. You announce your private servers months if not years before they are actually ready. When you finally deliver, if you even deliver at all, nearly all the promises turn to sand. Are found to be empty shells. You then milk the community for all that it's worth. You let the community eventually get fed up with your bullshit and let the server die. Then you start the cycle all over again under a different name.
This is the reason why 9dragons fails. This is the reason why we never get what we want out of private servers.
Greed.
You might try to argue the point with me. You might use fancy speech and eloquent wording to twist my words around and turn it into something favorable for you.
However, you can never change the simple fact: When you lie, people trust you less.
I ask the community at large, how long are we going to trust them?
When will enough be enough?

Oh look again, people who never worked a day in their life and dont understand how hard planning, engineering and developing projects are, and how hard is to meet deadlines duh.
Especially since this is reverse engineering its not programming in unity from scratch so its much harder to hack/mod a game to customise than it is to make from scratch.

Don't throw bs like that man, it's their job to understand how hard it is and not make false assumptions about estimates. If it's viable or not should've been based on their expertise, not ours.

It's true as long we work fulltime on it and no unexpected things affecting our lives happen. I told it way too many times but is it really that hard to understand such a trivial thing? Yet I was the one forcing the New Dawn to discard the 27th March and August ETAs after I left the team, it was their choice to keep it.
But it's completely funny how people that never wrote a "Hello World" program are trying to tell us how development looks like. Go and ask other server developers how did they progress without me, Plastic or Asura being around.

I skipped about a half of the post, because I agree, more or less. But I really want to relate to the stuff I quoted. Yes, the files are stolen. If you make an emulator, you still steal the client. You can't avoid stealing, if you are going for the private server. Yet, that's what community wants and the official servers don't deliver. But if holding a full-fledged server for almost a year with your money (not the community) is a greed, then I think I didn't understand something. If we wanted to go for your money, we would just run yet another US 2012 files-based server. It takes no longer than 2 hours to make it. But the effort spent on the reverse engineering, fixing the bugs developers never actually cared for, making the community happy with the content - that's far from being greedy.
So, you completely missed that point. I've spent over 30 hours last 2 weeks just in Visual Studio developing the fixes and reading leaked source code. It doesn't involve the actual RE process, finding addresses, analysing the logic or in-game testing.
Then, I will repeat my question: is it greed? Is it milking the players? If anything, we're deep in red, considering the amount we paid and what we received so far ($0).

You'll all happily come in and play once the server does go live. Irony eh.

Man I'm not sure I stated, I'm a web developer myself and I have some experience but if things where developed and promises were made like this, I can assure no clients would be happy and we'd really have big problems on our side.

And I can assure you (and I stated it before like 4 times) - we're not doing it as a "work", but as a hobby. But, of course, you are comparing your workplace to something we do for fun. Trust me, I have enough matters and deadlines to care about, and I won't sacrifice them for my hobby.
